Macintosh Quadra 605 (LC 475)
The Apple Macintosh LC 475 and the Macintosh Quadra 605 are the same machine.
This computer was one of the first Macs with the new Low Cost Motorola 68LC040 CPU, released in 1993. The CPU ran at 25MHz on a 50MHz divided clock. The LC475 came with a 250MByte hard drive and had the capacity for 36MByte of RAM. Due to the fact that the CPU did not have a math coprocessor, the LC475 could not run Unix.
Is it a Quadra? An LC? A Performa?
In 1993 Apple made the decision to rename their Macintosh computers. They introduced three different product names, based on the target audiences. The result of this is that many Macintosh machines are exact duplicates of each other, but just with a different brand name.
- Quadra line - Business Customers, sold only through Apple resellers.
- LC line - Education market, sold primarily to schools.
- Performa - Home consumers, sold in department and electronics stores.
