Sony has just announced its new PlayStation Plus subscription tiers, which will be available later this year. Offering new Extra and Premium levels, you’ll get access to back catalogs of many PlayStation games. However, if you want to play classic PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, you’ll have to pay for Premium, which is the most expensive option. Just like Nintento, Sony is putting some of its older and popular games behind its highest priced subscription.
Subscriptions to play classic games is not new to Sony. They've done it before and gamers could get access to PS2, PS3, and PS4 games if you purchased the PlayStation Now subscription.
PlayStation Plus is a new subscription service tier. And in order to get more people to buy the Premium tier, Sony is putting classic games behind this expensive tier. In a way it makes sense. A lot of people like classic games because they grew up with them. Now those same people are in their middle-aged years, with a lot more money to spend.
The Premium subscription starts at $17.99 a month, $49.99 per quarter, or $119.99 for the whole year.
