PC Engine Shuttle
The PC Engine Shuttle was designed as a less expensive model of the PC Engine, aimed at younger players. It was released in Japan in 1989 for 18,800 yen. The case was designed to resemble a space-ship and the controller was redesigned and shaped differently than the previous TurboPad controllers.
Cost were reduced on this unit by removing the expansion port from the back. This makes this model of the PC-Engine the first model that was not compatible with the CD-ROM2 add-on that NEC developed. However, it does have a slot for a mamory backup unit, which is required for some games. The Shuttle did not have an RF output, but rather an A/V port for video output.
The PC Engine Shuttle was released in 1990 in South Korea by the Daewoo Electronics company.
