Netflix’s new horror movie might hit a note with fans of horror and retro gaming.
Kayla, a broke college student and coder, decides to play an obscure 1980s survival computer game to have a shot at $100,000 in unclaimed prize money. The game however unleases a hidden curse that tears reality apart, forcing Kayla to make terrifying decisions and face deadly consequences. She soon realises she is no longer playing for the money, but for her own life.
This film can be described as part Jumanji, part Hunter x Hunter's Greed Iland and part Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
The game is aptly named CURS>R, it is no ordinary text-adventure, it is a cursed game that eerily reflects real life with deadly results. If you die in the game, you definitely die in real life.
Choose or Die stars Iola Evans (Carnival Row, The 100) and Sex Education’s Asa Butterfield.
The movie premieres on Netflix on April 15. Word’s out on whether or not there will be an accompanying Netflix interactive element to go with it, as it did with a Black Mirror episode.
