Nintendo's President Shuntaro Furukawa announced on the social media platform X that the company will make an announcement about a new Nintendo Console somewhere within this fiscal year, which ends March 31st 2025.

The first version of the Nintendo Switch is now already 9 years old and has been a huge success for Nintendo. Even last year with slowing sales, Nintendo still sold 15.7 million units. What will a new console look like? It's anyones guess at this point.

Of course Nintendo must be be careful with the news, they don't want to hurt the sales of the existing Switch, as it is the third best selling console of all time, right behind the Playstation 2 and their own Nintendo DS handheld.

Nintendo also had a taste of disaster. The Wii U was a flop and the 3DS did poorly in sales. Nintendo has often taken a bold step of trying something different and innovative, but this time the company may play it safe and produce just a more powerful switch as the platform is still extremely popular.

Some of the rumors and news from suppliers offer the possibility that the new device would have magneticly attached joy-cons and maybe sport new buttons. Rumor has it also that the device will be backwards compatible, allowing for the vast catalog of cartridge games to be played on the new device.
